Preparation
Make sure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean and dry. It is particularly important that new surfaces are fully dry and free from all defective or poorly adhering material such as dirt, grease or wax.
- Rub down previously painted surfaces, using ‘wet flatting’ methods where possible, and wipe off with a damp, lint free cloth. Pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal may contain harmful lead, so special precautions should be made.
- New and bare metal surfaces up to 90°C should be primed with an appropriate primer.
- Surfaces above 90°C the Aluminium paint should be applied direct to the clean, prepared surface.
Application
Always read the manufacturer's instructions found on the tin. We recommend performing a test patch to ensure you are happy with the finished results.
- Stir the paint well before use, to get an even flow and consistent colour.
- Apply one or two coats with a brush only. Do not spray or apply with a roller.
- Allow drying for 16-24 hours between coats.
Please Note: The level of heat resistance achieved will be dependent upon the heating cycle, whether it is sustained or fluctuating, and also upon the extremes of temperature involved, but generally Dulux Trade Aluminium Paint will withstand temperatures up to 260°C.
